Today was the first mural project to happen at the Tuerk House, and it went so well! After a little time spent priming and drawing out the mural design that was thought of by the inpatients, we gathered thirteen fantastic volunteers to help paint. We came in from 1-4 pm and managed to paint the six murals almost completely, and we finished priming the rest of the cafeteria. There was alot of hard work put in by the volunteers, and it really shows!
The Tuerk House patients and staff are so incredibly grateful for the designs. One woman even cried a little when she saw them because they were so motivating and beautifully painted. The patients are so inspired by the artwork, and it really shows in the art classes. They are eager to learn how to draw and paint from life just as we did.
Overall, although we have some touch ups to do, the mural looks beautiful, and it couldn't have happened without all of the incredible volunteers we had today!
