Project Outline: The adults I will be working with today will be provided a lesson plan that aims to express ideas or themes through the catalyst of patterning. Pattern surrounds us in our everyday lives, and communicates emotions and expressions that impact how we look or look at something. Today’s activity will provide a series of words or themes such as joy, calm, serious, playful, simple, organic, and abstract. The adults will then create a 5-minute pattern based on that theme based on what they think the physical attributes may be to the word given. In the end, we will categorize the gather all of the patterns into their categories, and critique which may be the most successful at portraying an the idea, and which might be good in a Tuerk House mural. A homework assignment will be handed out to those who wish to participate, asking the adults to write a one paragraph statement about what they think would be important to convey in a Tuerk House mural, and an example of a pattern that would be good to include in it.
